amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative

The amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is an industry-driven movement that aims to monitor and assess workplace standards across the global supply chain. amfori is the leading association for companies and associations who are committed to free and sustainable trade. It supports retailers, importers, brand manufacturers and national associations in achieving socially acceptable production conditions and promoting global trading relationships, and in the responsible use of resources. Since 2003, amfori BSCI has enabled companies to trade with purpose by improving social performance in their supply chain. The amfori BSCI audit helps a business monitor its supply chain, to ensure that all suppliers are treating workers ethically and legally. Effectively, this means monitoring the supply chain’s progress in implementing and improving sustainable business practices. amfori BSCI is not a certification, but a verification. In contrast to a (successful) certification, a verification does not guarantee that the audited organization fulfils the requirements completely. Verification to amfori BSCI only testifies to the degree to which the audited organization fulfils the requirements. The amfori BSCI code of conduct has 11 principles that support the members. The amfori BSCI platform provides a single point for all supply chain performance information. By sharing monitoring activities’ results, the members reduce effort, save money and increase consistency for buyers and suppliers. BSCI offers a range of practical auditing tools to help the members manage their risk and effectively monitor their supply chain. In order to go ahead with the BSCI audit, once must receive an invitation from their buyer to join the BSCI platform and get acknowledged on the platform as a Responsible Service Provider (RSP). The BSCI Audit report is valid for 1 - 2 years based on the Audit Result. For achieving a score of A or B the audit is valid for 2 years and for achieving a score of C it stays valid for 1 year.
