HIGG INDEX

Sustainable Apparel Coalition Standard

Higg is a technology platform that helps consumer goods companies measure and improve the sustainability of their supply chain – with a unique full value chain approach across carbon, water, energy, social, and labor impacts. Launched in 2019, Higg hosts a range of assessment methodologies, such as the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s Higg Index and the Apparel Impact Institute’s Carbon Leadership Program. Higg is trusted by major global brands, multi-vertical retailers, and manufacturers around the world. The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is a strategic and valued partner of Higg. The Higg Index suite of tools (for which the SAC owns the Intellectual Property, Trademark, and continues to develop) remains a core offering on our software platform, and we remain its exclusive licensee. The Higg Index provides a tool to assess sustainability throughout a product's entire life cycle, from materials to end-of-life. The metrics created Higg Index are limited to a company's internal use for the evaluation and improvement of environmental performance. The Higg Index is comprised of a core set of major 2 tools that together assess the Social and Environmental performance of the value chain, including the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM) & Higg Facility Social & Labor Module (FSLM). The Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM) measures environmental impact of product manufacturing at facilities – from water use, to waste management, to chemical and energy use. The Higg Facility Social & Labor Module (Higg FSLM) measures the social impact of manufacturing across areas such as wages, working hours, health and safety, and employee treatment. The Higg Index has organized it tool into three categories - Measurement, Management & Transparency. Higg’s data management tools organize the performance and impact data, to help develop actionable insights about the value chain. It's analytics tool surfaces insights quickly about supplier performance in key areas and provides benchmarks with similar factories.
